Thiemann Arzneimittel

Thiemann Arzneimittel was a prominent German pharmaceutical company based in Waltrop, specializing in the development, production, and marketing of therapeutics for gastroenterology, neurology, and cardiovascular health. The company was widely recognized for its strong presence in the German market, particularly through its distribution of the proton pump inhibitor Antra (omeprazole) and its own brands like the muscle relaxant Mydocalm. In 1998, Thiemann was acquired by Organon, the healthcare division of Akzo Nobel, to strengthen Organon's position in the German primary care and specialty markets. Following a series of industry consolidations, the company's assets were eventually integrated into Schering-Plough and subsequently Merck & Co. (known as MSD outside the U.S. and Canada). Today, the legacy of Thiemann persists through the continued clinical use of its former core product portfolio.
