Third Wave Japan

Third Wave Japan was the Japanese subsidiary of Third Wave Technologies, a molecular diagnostics company specializing in high-sensitivity nucleic acid detection. The company is best known for its proprietary Invader assay technology, an isothermal method used for detecting genetic variations, including single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and infectious agents. In Japan, the company focused on commercializing diagnostic kits for human papillomavirus (HPV) and pharmacogenomic markers such as UGT1A1 for irinotecan toxicity screening. Following the acquisition of the parent company by Hologic in 2008, Third Wave Japan's operations and product portfolio were integrated into Hologic's diagnostic division. The technology remains a cornerstone of molecular testing workflows in clinical laboratories across Japan for personalized medicine and oncology.
