Thompson Medical was a prominent American consumer healthcare company specializing in the development and marketing of over-the-counter (OTC) medications. Founded in 1947 by S. Daniel Abraham, the firm became a market leader through the success of blockbuster brands such as Dexatrim, Aspercreme, and Cortizone-10. The company was particularly noted for its aggressive marketing strategies and its dominance in the weight loss and topical analgesic categories. In the late 1990s, Thompson Medical divested its core brands to Chattem for approximately 160 million dollars, following which the company ceased independent operations.
