Thromb-X

Thromb-X was a Belgian biotechnology company founded in 1991 as a spin-off from the University of Leuven (KU Leuven) by Professor Désiré Collen. The company focused on the discovery and development of novel therapeutic agents for cardiovascular and thrombotic disorders, leveraging deep expertise in the mechanisms of blood coagulation and fibrinolysis. Its primary research efforts led to the development of recombinant staphylokinase, a potent thrombolytic agent intended for the treatment of acute myocardial infarction and stroke. Thromb-X also contributed to the early development of monoclonal antibodies targeting coagulation factors, such as Factor XI. In 2006, the company merged with ThromboGenics (now Oxurion) to consolidate their research portfolios and accelerate the clinical development of their lead candidates. The legacy of Thromb-X's technology eventually contributed to the development of treatments in both the cardiovascular and ophthalmology spaces.
