Company intelligence / Profile preview
TNI-Penta was a biotechnology joint venture established between TNI Pharmaceuticals and Pentabiotech to advance the development of Methionine Enkephalin (MEK) as a therapeutic agent. The company focused on the immunomodulatory properties of MEK, an endogenous peptide, for the treatment of cancer and HIV/AIDS. Led by Dr. Nicholas Plotnikoff, a renowned researcher in psychoneuroimmunology, the venture sought to leverage MEK's ability to stimulate the immune system and inhibit tumor growth. TNI-Penta entered into significant international collaborations, including a partnership with China-based Skystar Bio-Pharmaceutical to develop veterinary vaccines and human therapeutics. The venture's work laid the groundwork for subsequent clinical trials involving enkephalin-based immunotherapies. Although the joint venture is no longer active, its core technologies were integrated into the broader pipeline of its parent organizations.
