Tokai Pharmaceuticals

Tokai Pharmaceuticals was a U.S. clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing therapies for prostate cancer and other hormonally driven diseases. Its lead and essentially sole pipeline asset was galeterone, an oral small molecule designed to act as an androgen receptor antagonist, androgen receptor degrader, and CYP17 lyase inhibitor. The company advanced galeterone through Phase 1 and Phase 2 testing and into the Phase 3 ARMOR3-SV trial in AR-V7-positive metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer. In July 2016, Tokai announced it would discontinue ARMOR3-SV following a recommendation from the trial’s data monitoring committee, and in August 2016 it also halted further galeterone development activities. In December 2016, Tokai agreed to acquire Otic Pharma and change its name, ending Tokai’s existence as an operating oncology company and leading to its later evolution into Eledon Pharmaceuticals.
