Townsend Design

Townsend Design is a U.S. orthopedic medical device company focused on prescription bracing and orthotic solutions for knee, ankle, foot, and related mobility conditions. The business is best known for custom and off-the-shelf knee braces for osteoarthritis, ligament injury, and complex orthopedic patients, along with specialty orthoses such as ankle-foot orthoses and KAFO products. Founded in 1984 in Bakersfield, California, Townsend built a reputation for custom fabrication and difficult-patient fitting workflows using casts, digital scans, and photos. The company was acquired by Thuasne in January 2011 and now operates within the Thuasne USA organization while continuing to manufacture and distribute orthopedic bracing products in the U.S. market.
