Company intelligence / Profile preview
Tricida was a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of its lead drug candidate, veverimer (TRC101), a non-absorbed, orally administered polymer for the treatment of metabolic acidosis in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The company's technology platform specialized in creating high-capacity, selective polymers that could bind and remove specific small molecules or ions from the gastrointestinal tract. Despite reaching Phase 3 clinical trials and submitting a New Drug Application, veverimer failed to meet its primary endpoint in the confirmatory VALOR-CKD trial. Following this failure, Tricida filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in early 2023 and subsequently liquidated its assets. The company was headquartered in South San Francisco and was led by a management team with significant experience in polymer-based therapeutics.
