Tricida was a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of its lead drug candidate, veverimer (TRC101), a non-absorbed, orally administered polymer for the treatment of metabolic acidosis in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The company's technology platform specialized in creating high-capacity, selective polymers that could bind and remove specific small molecules or ions from the gastrointestinal tract. Despite reaching Phase 3 clinical trials and submitting a New Drug Application, veverimer failed to meet its primary endpoint in the confirmatory VALOR-CKD trial. Following this failure, Tricida filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in early 2023 and subsequently liquidated its assets.
