Trafalgar Ventures was a publicly traded shell company that completed a reverse merger with Cyberkinetics, Inc. in October 2004, subsequently operating as Cyberkinetics Neurotechnology Systems. The company was a pioneer in the field of brain-computer interfaces (BCI), developing the BrainGate Neural Interface System designed to restore functionality to individuals with severe paralysis. The technology utilized an implanted microelectrode array to decode neural activity from the motor cortex, allowing users to control external devices such as computers or robotic limbs through thought. While the company achieved significant clinical milestones and FDA clearances for research use, it struggled with commercialization and filed for bankruptcy in 2009, with its core technology later being acquired by other entities.
