Transcell Technologies

Transcell Technologies was a U.S. biotechnology company focused on carbohydrate chemistry for drug discovery and drug delivery. The company developed proprietary combinatorial libraries of carbohydrate-based therapeutics as well as cell permeation enhancers designed to transport molecules across cellular membranes. Its technology was described as applicable to antibiotics, proteins such as calcitonin and insulin, antisense oligonucleotides, and gene therapy payloads. Transcell was founded in 1993 in New Jersey and was later acquired; historical sources describe it as a wholly owned subsidiary of Interneuron Pharmaceuticals and SEC materials indicate a 1998 merger transaction involving Intercardia, Interneuron, and Transcell. The company appears to have been an early platform biotech rather than a clinical-stage therapeutics company with a disclosed late-stage pipeline.
