TransVascular

TransVascular was a medical technology company focused on developing catheter-based systems for the treatment of complex vascular diseases. The company's primary innovation was the Pioneer catheter, a device designed to facilitate percutaneous bypass procedures and the delivery of therapeutic agents directly into the vessel wall or surrounding tissue. By enabling 'transvascular' access, the technology allowed physicians to cross chronic total occlusions and perform revascularization in patients who were otherwise poor candidates for traditional surgery. The company's platform also explored the localized delivery of drugs and genes to treat restenosis and promote angiogenesis. TransVascular was acquired by Medtronic in 2003 to enhance its vascular intervention portfolio and expand its capabilities in treating chronic total occlusions.
