TranXenoGen

TranXenoGen was a biotechnology company that pioneered the development of avian transgenic technology for the production of therapeutic proteins. The company's core platform involved genetically modifying chickens to express recombinant proteins, such as human serum albumin, insulin, and interferon, in their egg whites. This "pharming" approach was designed to offer a scalable and cost-effective alternative to traditional bioreactor-based manufacturing methods. Founded in 1998 and headquartered in Massachusetts, TranXenoGen was listed on the London Stock Exchange's AIM market. Despite its innovative technology, the company faced significant financial and technical challenges, leading to its liquidation and the cessation of all operations in 2005.
