Travanol Laboratories

Travenol Laboratories was the primary operating name for Baxter International from the 1950s until 1985, serving as a global leader in intravenous (IV) therapy and renal care. The company was responsible for several landmark medical innovations, including the first commercially manufactured IV solutions and the first portable artificial kidney. Travenol also pioneered the development of plastic blood collection containers and the first "closed system" for IV administration, which significantly reduced infection risks in hospitals. Following a major merger with American Hospital Supply Corporation in 1985, the company consolidated its operations under the name Baxter International. Today, its legacy continues through Baxter's extensive portfolio of hospital products, dialysis technologies, and clinical nutrition services.
