Triangle

Triangle Pharmaceuticals was a U.S. antiviral-focused biopharmaceutical company that developed therapies for HIV and chronic hepatitis B. Its lead asset was emtricitabine, then branded Coviracil and later commercialized by Gilead as Emtriva, which had reached the NDA stage before Triangle was acquired. The company also advanced amdoxovir for HIV and clevudine for hepatitis B in mid-stage clinical development. Triangle was acquired by Gilead Sciences in January 2003 following a December 2002 deal announcement, and it no longer operates as an independent company. The company is best known for contributing assets that later became central to Gilead's HIV franchise.
