Company intelligence / Profile preview
Trigon Healthcare was a leading managed healthcare company and the largest health insurer in Virginia. Operating primarily as the Blue Cross and Blue Shield licensee for the state, the company provided a comprehensive range of health insurance products and administrative services. In 1997, Trigon became one of the first Blue Cross Blue Shield plans to convert to a publicly traded, for-profit corporation. The company was acquired by Anthem, Inc. (now Elevance Health) in 2002 for approximately $4.04 billion in cash and stock. This acquisition significantly expanded Anthem's footprint in the Mid-Atlantic region. Following the merger, Trigon's operations were integrated into Anthem's regional business units.
