Company intelligence / Profile preview
Tripos was a pioneering company in the fields of cheminformatics and computer-aided drug design, widely recognized for its flagship molecular modeling software, SYBYL. The company's Drug Discovery division, Tripos Discovery Research (TDR), integrated these computational capabilities with high-throughput chemistry to provide lead discovery and optimization services to the pharmaceutical industry. Based in St. Louis with a major research center in Bude, UK, Tripos served as a critical partner for major firms like Pfizer and Bayer, specializing in the design and synthesis of targeted chemical libraries. In 2007, Tripos was acquired by Vector Capital for approximately $57 million and subsequently split into separate software and research entities. The discovery research business was later acquired by Commonwealth Biotechnologies, while the software business eventually became part of Certara.
