Trius Therapeutics was a biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of innovative antibiotics for serious, life-threatening bacterial infections. The company's lead product, Sivextro (tedizolid phosphate), is a second-generation oxazolidinone antibiotic approved for the treatment of acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI), including those caused by MRSA. Trius was acquired by Cubist Pharmaceuticals in 2013 for approximately $704 million, and its assets are now part of Merck & Co. following Merck's acquisition of Cubist. The company also maintained a pipeline of preclinical programs targeting gram-negative bacteria using its structure-based drug discovery platform.
