Troponwerke

Troponwerke was a German pharmaceutical company based in Cologne, founded in 1898 by Gottfried Hagen. The company initially achieved international success with 'Tropon,' a high-purity protein powder derived from animal and vegetable sources used as a nutritional supplement. Over the decades, Troponwerke transitioned into a research-oriented pharmaceutical firm, becoming particularly well-known for its portfolio in psychiatry and neurology. Its most significant pharmaceutical contribution was the development and marketing of the neuroleptic drug melperone, sold under the brand name Eunerpan. The company was acquired by Bayer in 1967 and operated as a subsidiary for several decades. It was eventually fully integrated into Bayer's pharmaceutical division in the late 1990s, and its independent legal existence ceased in the early 2000s.
