Tobira Therapeutics was a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the development of therapies for liver disease and inflammation. The company's lead asset, cenicriviroc (CVC), is a dual inhibitor of CCR2 and CCR5, designed to address the inflammatory and fibrotic pathways of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Tobira was acquired by Allergan in 2016 in a deal valued at up to $1.7 billion, significantly expanding Allergan's presence in the hepatology space. Following the acquisition, cenicriviroc continued into Phase 3 trials, though development was later discontinued by AbbVie (which acquired Allergan) due to lack of efficacy in the AURORA study.
