U.S. Biomaterials

U.S. Biomaterials Corporation was a medical technology company specializing in the development of bioactive glass products for bone regeneration and dental repair. The company was founded to commercialize the Bioglass technology originally invented by Dr. Larry Hench at the University of Florida, which represents the first synthetic material to chemically bond with living bone. Its primary commercial products included PerioGlas, used in periodontal surgery, and NovaBone, a synthetic bone graft substitute for orthopedic applications. These products function by forming a hydroxycarbonate apatite layer that facilitates the attachment and proliferation of osteoblasts. In 2003, the company was acquired by Noven Pharmaceuticals, and its core bone graft assets were later transitioned to NovaBone Products.
