Umbilical Cord Blood Bank

The National Cord Blood Program (NCBP), a division of the New York Blood Center, is the world's first and largest public umbilical cord blood bank. Established in 1992, it pioneered the use of cord blood as a source of hematopoietic stem cells for transplantation in patients with life-threatening diseases such as leukemia and sickle cell anemia. The program is notable for developing HEMACORD, the first FDA-licensed hematopoietic progenitor cell-cord (HPC-C) therapy. NCBP provides high-quality, ethnically diverse cord blood units to transplant centers globally and continues to lead research in cellular therapy and regenerative medicine.
