Unicet Biotech

Unicet was a prominent French biotechnology company based in Dardilly, France, that became a cornerstone of Schering-Plough's global research efforts after its acquisition in 1982. Operating as the Schering-Plough Laboratory for Immunological Research (LIR), the entity was world-renowned for its pioneering work in the discovery and cloning of key cytokines, including Interleukin-4, Interleukin-10, and Interleukin-13. The research conducted at Unicet significantly advanced the scientific understanding of B-cell biology, dendritic cell function, and immune regulation. These discoveries laid the groundwork for numerous clinical programs in oncology and inflammatory diseases, many of which transitioned into the portfolio of Merck & Co. (MSD) following its merger with Schering-Plough. Although no longer an independent entity, Unicet's legacy remains foundational to modern immunotherapy and cytokine-based drug development.
