Universal American Financial

Universal American was a U.S. health insurance and managed care company focused primarily on seniors and government-sponsored healthcare programs. Historically, it operated as a life and accident and health insurance holding company and built a portfolio spanning Medicare Advantage, Medicare Part D, Medicare supplement, long-term care, home health care, and related senior insurance products. Over time, the company expanded through acquisitions and developed particular strength in Medicare managed care and physician engagement. The business later operated under the name Universal American Corporation and was publicly traded on the NYSE under the symbol UAM. In April 2017, WellCare completed its acquisition of Universal American, after which the company became a wholly owned subsidiary and was subsequently integrated into WellCare's systems and operations.
