University HealthSystem Consortium

University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) was a prominent alliance of United States nonprofit academic medical centers, established to enhance clinical, financial, and operational performance. Headquartered in Chicago and founded in 1984, the organization served nearly all of the nation's academic medical centers through data-driven benchmarking and supply chain services. In 2015, UHC merged with VHA Inc. to form Vizient, Inc., creating the largest member-owned healthcare performance improvement company in the country. UHC was widely recognized for its Quality and Accountability Study, which provided rigorous performance rankings for teaching hospitals. The consortium's legacy continues through Vizient's extensive analytics and group purchasing programs.
