Company intelligence / Profile preview
University Medical Discoveries Inc. (UMDI) was the venture capital and commercialization arm of the University Health Network (UHN) in Toronto, Canada. Established in 1993, UMDI was tasked with bridging the gap between academic research and the commercial marketplace by identifying, protecting, and developing promising life science technologies from UHN’s research institutes, including Toronto General and Princess Margaret hospitals. The firm acted as an incubator and seed investor, playing a pivotal role in the formation and funding of several prominent Canadian biotechnology companies. UMDI's operations were eventually integrated into the broader UHN Commercialization office to streamline the translation of medical innovations into clinical solutions.
