University of Birmingham Enterprise

University of Birmingham Enterprise acts as the technology transfer and commercialization arm for the University of Birmingham. It catalyzes adoption and translation of university-developed innovations into products/services with local and global impact. In 2023–24 it supported significant funding rounds for several life sciences spinouts such as Salinity Solutions, Tagomics, 4D Medicine, and established Midland Pharmaceuticals Ltd focused on spinal cord injury therapeutics.

The organization manages incubation facilities at Birmingham Research Park—home to over 50 innovative companies in life sciences/health tech—and provides mentoring/training/support services for academic entrepreneurs. It also operates unique models like EnterpriseOD™ Operating Divisions that allow academics to test ideas before forming new ventures.

The entity has been recognized with awards such as PraxisAuril’s Place-based Knowledge Exchange Initiative prize in 2024.

It collaborates regionally through initiatives like Midlands Mindforge—a patient capital investor backing university spinouts—and works closely with other Midlands Innovation universities.
