Urica Therapeutics

Urica Therapeutics is a private, Fortress Biotech-controlled clinical-stage biopharmaceutical subsidiary focused on therapies for gout and related hyperuricemic diseases. The company was originally formed as UR-1 Therapeutics and later renamed Urica Therapeutics. Its lead asset was dotinurad, an oral small-molecule urate transporter 1 inhibitor licensed from Fuji Yakuhin for territories including the United States, Europe, Canada, MENA, and Turkey. In July 2024, Urica transferred dotinurad and related rights to Crystalys Therapeutics in exchange for equity and a 3% royalty on future net sales, leaving Urica primarily as a holding entity tied to the asset’s downstream economics rather than as the direct clinical sponsor. Urica remains active as a Fortress subsidiary and continues to be associated with Crystalys’ advancement of dotinurad into global Phase 3 studies for gout.
