Company intelligence / Profile preview
URL Pharma was a Philadelphia-based specialty pharmaceutical company that focused on the development and commercialization of both branded and generic drug products. The company is best known for obtaining FDA approval for Colcrys (colchicine), which became the first branded version of the ancient gout remedy to receive regulatory exclusivity. URL Pharma operated a significant generics business through its subsidiary, Mutual Pharmaceutical Company, which produced a wide range of affordable medications. In 2012, Takeda Pharmaceuticals acquired URL Pharma for an upfront payment of $800 million to secure the rights to Colcrys. Subsequently, Takeda divested the non-Colcrys generic assets to Sun Pharma.
