Company intelligence / Profile preview
USB Corporation, originally established as United States Biochemical, was a premier provider of life science reagents and biochemicals headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio. The company played a pivotal role in the molecular biology revolution, most notably through the development of Sequenase DNA polymerase, which became the industry standard for manual and automated DNA sequencing. Throughout its history, USB underwent several ownership changes, including an acquisition by Amersham in 1993 and a subsequent management buyout in 2002. The company's extensive product line included high-purity enzymes, biochemicals, and kits for PCR, cloning, and protein analysis. In 2008, USB was acquired by Affymetrix for approximately $75 million to strengthen its genetic analysis and molecular biology portfolio. Following Thermo Fisher Scientific's acquisition of Affymetrix in 2016, USB's technologies and products were integrated into the Thermo Fisher Scientific life sciences brand.
