UVaCide

UVaCide Corporation, which later rebranded as Patholase, Inc., was a medical technology company that pioneered the use of light-based therapies for treating microbial infections. The company is best known for developing the PinPointe FootLaser, the first laser device to receive FDA clearance for the treatment of onychomycosis (toenail fungus). The technology employs a patented Nd:YAG laser to selectively target and destroy fungal pathogens within the nail bed while preserving the surrounding healthy tissue. In 2011, the company's core laser technology and assets were spun off into NuvoLase, Inc., which continues to market the device globally through partnerships with companies like Cynosure. While the original UVaCide entity is no longer active, its pioneering work established a new standard for non-pharmacological treatment in podiatry.
