Všeobecná zdravotní pojišťovna (VZP) is the largest public health insurance provider in the Czech Republic, serving approximately 60% of the country's population. Established in 1991 by special legislation, it acts as the primary administrator of the mandatory public health insurance system, managing the collection of premiums and the reimbursement of healthcare services. The organization maintains a vast network of contracts with healthcare providers, ranging from individual practitioners to large university hospitals. VZP also plays a significant role in the Czech pharmaceutical market by negotiating drug prices and reimbursement levels. Beyond basic insurance, it offers various health prevention programs and operates a commercial subsidiary for non-mandatory insurance products.
