Valera Pharmaceuticals

Valera Pharmaceuticals was a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on developing, acquiring, and commercializing products in urology and endocrinology. Its lead marketed product was VANTAS®, a once-yearly leuprolide acetate hydrogel implant for advanced prostate cancer. The company also developed SUPPRELIN® LA for central precocious puberty, VALSTAR® for BCG-refractory bladder cancer, an octreotide implant for acromegaly, a biodegradable ureteral stent post-lithotripsy, and early-stage programs including a Zika vaccine candidate. The core technology was the Hydron hydrogel-based controlled-release platform. In December 2006 it was acquired by Indevus Pharmaceuticals.
