Vaya Health

Vaya Health is a public managed care organization (LME/MCO) that manages public funds for mental health, substance use disorder, and intellectual/developmental disability (I/DD) services in North Carolina. The organization operates as a prepaid inpatient health plan (PIHP), coordinating care for Medicaid recipients and uninsured residents across a 31-county region. Vaya Health focuses on a "whole-person" care model, integrating behavioral health with physical health and pharmacy services to improve member outcomes. Following its merger with Cardinal Innovations Healthcare in 2021, Vaya Health has become one of the largest entities of its kind in the state. It plays a critical role in the North Carolina Medicaid transformation, transitioning members to integrated "Tailored Plans" designed for individuals with complex needs.
