Velcera was a companion animal health company that specialized in developing and commercializing over-the-counter (OTC) veterinary medicines. The company is best known for its PetArmor brand, which provided affordable flea and tick treatments using the same active ingredients as leading prescription products. Velcera also pioneered the ProMist technology, a patented transmucosal oral mist delivery system designed to enhance the administration of medications for pain and allergies in pets. In 2013, Velcera was acquired by Perrigo for $160 million, significantly expanding Perrigo's footprint in the animal healthcare sector.
