Company intelligence / Profile preview
Ventaira Pharmaceuticals was a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on the development of high-efficiency pulmonary drug delivery systems. Spun out of the Battelle Memorial Institute as Battelle Pulmonary Therapeutics, the company's core technology was the Ventura nebulizer, a breath-actuated device designed to deliver precise doses of medications to the lungs. This platform was intended to improve the efficacy and safety of inhaled therapies for conditions such as asthma and COPD, as well as enable the systemic delivery of proteins and peptides. The Ventura technology was notable for its ability to minimize drug waste and ensure consistent dosing regardless of patient breathing patterns. In 2007, the company was acquired by Nektar Therapeutics for $25 million to enhance Nektar's leadership in the inhaled drug delivery market. Following the acquisition, Ventaira's operations and intellectual property were integrated into Nektar's pulmonary business unit.
