Company intelligence / Profile preview
Verb Surgical was a U.S.-based digital surgery and robotic surgery company formed in 2015 as a collaboration between Johnson & Johnson's Ethicon business and Verily Life Sciences. The company aimed to build a comprehensive surgical platform that combined robotic capabilities, advanced visualization, instrumentation, machine learning, data analytics, and connectivity to support less invasive and more personalized medical interventions. Its work focused on enabling surgeons across multiple procedure types, including open, laparoscopic, percutaneous, and endoluminal interventions, rather than developing drug therapeutics. In December 2019, Johnson & Johnson announced it would acquire Verily's remaining stake in Verb Surgical, effectively bringing the venture fully under J&J and integrating its technology and talent into J&J's broader digital surgery efforts. Verb Surgical is therefore best understood as a now-closed/acquired medtech platform company rather than an active standalone biotech or pharma company.
