Vesicor Therapeutics

Vesicor Therapeutics is a biotechnology company specializing in the development of extracellular vesicle (EV) therapies for cardiac repair and regeneration. Spun out from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), the company developed a proprietary platform for the large-scale production of therapeutic EVs derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). Their research primarily focuses on treating myocardial infarction and heart failure by delivering regenerative signals to damaged heart tissue to promote healing and reduce fibrosis. In late 2022, the company was acquired by AstraZeneca to enhance its cardiovascular, renal, and metabolism (CVRM) portfolio. The acquisition allows AstraZeneca to leverage Vesicor's expertise in EV biology and manufacturing for next-generation regenerative medicines.
