Vestal Laboratories

Vestal Laboratories was a specialized healthcare company focused on infection prevention and skin care products. Based in St. Louis, Missouri, the firm developed a wide range of germicides, surgical scrubs, and environmental disinfectants for use in clinical and laboratory settings. The company was acquired by Bristol-Myers Squibb in 1986 and later merged with Calgon's wound care division to form Calgon Vestal Laboratories. In 1996, Steris Corporation acquired the business for approximately $361 million, integrating Vestal's legacy brands into its infection prevention portfolio. Today, the products originally developed by Vestal, such as Vesphene and Septisol, remain staples in hospital hygiene and sterilization protocols.
