Company intelligence / Profile preview
Prior to its acquisition by Inovio Biomedical in June 2009, VGX Pharmaceuticals developed a broad pipeline focused on synthetic DNA vaccines and small molecule drugs targeting infectious diseases and immune-related conditions. Its lead assets included PENNVAX-B™ preventive HIV vaccine using electroporation delivery technology; universal influenza vaccines; therapeutic vaccines against HPV/cervical dysplasia/cancer using SynCon™ technology; small molecule immunomodulators such as VGX‑1027 which completed Phase I trials. The company also had animal health products through its majority-owned subsidiary. After merging with Inovio Biomedical Corp., all R&D activities continued under the combined entity’s expanded portfolio leveraging both companies’ proprietary platforms and technologies.
