Company intelligence / Profile preview
Vanguard Health Systems (VHS) was a prominent American healthcare provider that specialized in the ownership and operation of acute care hospitals and integrated delivery networks. Founded in 1997 and headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, the company grew through strategic acquisitions of both non-profit and for-profit hospital systems, often in partnership with private equity firm The Blackstone Group. Vanguard's business model focused on creating market-leading health systems in urban areas, including major operations in Detroit, San Antonio, and Phoenix. The company went public in 2011 and was subsequently acquired by Tenet Healthcare Corporation in 2013 for approximately $4.3 billion. Following the acquisition, Vanguard's facilities were integrated into Tenet's national network, though many continue to operate under their established local brands.
