ViaCell was a biotechnology company dedicated to the development of stem cell-based therapies and the provision of umbilical cord blood banking services. The company's primary commercial offering, ViaCord, enabled the preservation of newborn cord blood for potential use in treating various life-threatening diseases. ViaCell also leveraged its proprietary Selective Amplification technology to expand stem cell populations for therapeutic applications, particularly in oncology and hematology. Following its successful growth in the regenerative medicine space, the company was acquired by PerkinElmer in 2007 to bolster their neonatal and prenatal clinical offerings.
