VICIS is a medical technology and sports safety company dedicated to reducing the severity of head injuries, particularly concussions, in contact sports. Originally a spin-out from the University of Washington, the company developed the ZERO1 football helmet, which features a unique multi-layered design including a flexible outer shell and a specialized impact-absorbing RFLX layer. This technology is designed to deform upon impact, slowing the head's acceleration and reducing the force transmitted to the brain. Following a financial restructuring in 2020, the company's assets were acquired by Certor Sports, though the VICIS brand continues to operate and innovate in the protective equipment market. Their products are widely used across the NFL and collegiate football programs.
