Viking Therapeutics develops novel small molecule and peptide therapeutics targeting metabolic and endocrine diseases. Its lead asset, VK2735—a dual GLP‑1/GIP agonist—has shown up to ~15% weight loss over three months in phase II trials. An injectable formulation will enter phase III trials by mid–2025, with an oral version also advancing through phase II. Other pipeline assets include VK2809 (a thyroid hormone beta agonist) in phase II for MASH/NASH, and VK0214 targeting rare neurological disorder X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy. The company recently secured large-scale manufacturing capacity with CordenPharma to support potential commercial demand if its obesity drug(s) are approved. Viking remains independent but has been considered an acquisition target due to its promising late-stage pipeline.[6][8][9]
