Viokace

Viokace is a pharmaceutical brand and business unit of Nestlé Health Science, specializing in pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT). The company's primary product, Viokace (pancrelipase), is an FDA-approved non-enteric coated tablet indicated for the treatment of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) in adults with chronic pancreatitis or pancreatectomy. Originally developed by Aptalis and later owned by Allergan and AbbVie, the Viokace asset was acquired by Nestlé Health Science in 2020 to strengthen its gastrointestinal health portfolio. The product is currently marketed in the United States through Aimmune Therapeutics, a Nestlé Health Science company. Viokace is unique among PERTs as a non-enteric coated formulation, typically requiring co-administration with a proton pump inhibitor to ensure enzyme activity in the small intestine.
