Company intelligence / Profile preview
Viragen International was a biopharmaceutical company specializing in the development of therapeutic proteins for oncology and infectious diseases. The company's flagship product, Multiferon, was a multi-subtype human leucocyte interferon-alpha that received regulatory approvals in several international markets for the treatment of malignant melanoma. A significant portion of the company's research was dedicated to its proprietary avian transgenic technology, developed in collaboration with the Roslin Institute, which aimed to produce complex proteins in chicken eggs. Despite its innovative approach to biomanufacturing and its commercialized interferon product, the company faced persistent financial challenges. Viragen International and its parent company eventually ceased operations and underwent liquidation in 2008.
