Company intelligence / Profile preview
ViraNative AB was a Swedish biotechnology company based in Umeå that specialized in the manufacture of Multiferon, a natural, multi-subtype human alpha interferon derived from human leukocytes. The company operated as a subsidiary of Viragen International and focused on providing therapeutic proteins for the treatment of viral diseases and cancers, particularly malignant melanoma. In 2007, ViraNative filed for bankruptcy due to financial difficulties, and its assets, including the rights to Multiferon, were subsequently acquired by Swedish Orphan International AB. The acquisition ensured the continued production and availability of Multiferon for patients worldwide. ViraNative was notable for being the only manufacturer of natural human alpha interferon, which was approved in Sweden and several other countries. The company's manufacturing facility in Umeå was a key asset in the production of this unique biologic therapy.
