Virion Biotherapeutics

Virion Biotherapeutics was a London-based biotechnology company focused on developing a new class of broad-spectrum antivirals for respiratory virus infections. The company's proprietary platform utilized Therapeutic Interfering Particles (TIPs), which are non-replicating viral particles designed to interfere with viral replication and stimulate the host's innate immune system. Its lead candidate, VH244, demonstrated preclinical proof-of-concept in reducing viral replication in models of influenza and RSV. Founded in 2017 with backing from Abingworth, the company aimed to address the global threat of drug-resistant respiratory viruses. The company entered voluntary liquidation and was officially dissolved in April 2025. It was originally founded as VirionHealth and rebranded in 2018 to reflect its focus on biological therapeutics.
