Company intelligence / Profile preview
ViroChem Pharma was a Montreal-based biotech company specializing in the discovery and development of antiviral therapeutics. At the time of its acquisition by Vertex Pharmaceuticals for approximately $375 million in March 2009, it had two promising hepatitis C virus polymerase inhibitors—VCH‑222 and VCH‑759—in early-stage clinical development. Both compounds demonstrated significant reductions in plasma HCV RNA as single agents and were well tolerated. The acquisition aimed to complement Vertex's existing HCV protease inhibitor telaprevir pipeline.
