Virogenomics

Virogenomics was a biotechnology company based in Portland, Oregon, that specialized in functional genomics and bioinformatics to discover novel drug targets for viral diseases and cancer. Founded in 2000 as a spin-off from Oregon Health & Science University, the company focused on identifying host-cell proteins that viruses hijack to replicate, with the goal of developing therapies that are less prone to viral resistance. Their primary research centered on Hepatitis C and Influenza, utilizing a proprietary platform to analyze host-gene expression patterns and identify critical cellular pathways. The company's lead candidate, VG-1000, was designed to inhibit the GADD34/PP1 phosphatase complex to modulate the cellular stress response during viral infection. Although the company's assets were acquired by Virogenomics BioDevelopment in 2006, the entity eventually ceased operations and is no longer active in drug development.
