Viscogel was a Swedish biotechnology company focused on the development of proprietary chitosan-based hydrogel technology for medical applications. The company's core platform, ViscoGel, is a patented formulation of chitosan that provides a biocompatible and biodegradable matrix suitable for controlled drug delivery and tissue engineering. Its primary applications included the treatment of nail fungus (onychomycosis) and advanced wound care, where the gel's mucoadhesive properties enhance therapeutic efficacy. In 2012, Viscogel was acquired by Moberg Pharma, which integrated the technology into its pipeline to develop topical treatments like MOB-015.
